Fear is an overwhelming emotion. It is a natural feeling, part of the 'fight or flight' instinct present in animals and humans. However, as illogical as it seems, psychology explains it otherwise.
People fear what they do not understand; therefore; a fear which is fully understood by someone is irrational, unless it is life-threatening. This is why people fear ghosts and the dark; they do not understand either. If a person understood what ghosts are, how they function, and how we can communicate and protect ourselves from them, the concept would become less frightening.
Similarly, people do not fear the dark; they fear the things that it conceals. A lack of understanding leads to a lack of courage.
It should be clear that not all fears are misunderstood and therefore irrational. There are fears of wild animals, murderers and situations which can threaten life, such as standing on the edge of a cliff. These fears are fully understood as they are concerned with the potential fatality of the situation, and the only way to conquer them is to plan our actions, and to know how to carry them out.
By following the psychological tips, we can all master and plan for our trivial and non-fatal fears.
